May any “not a football fan” readers bear with me…give me a break for my first blog post. I’ve gotten into the NFL beyond normal this year, so I’m going with it. The field chains mark the spot where a new set of chances are obtained – they mark the minimum yards required before new opportunities emerge. Before a team gets to that place marked, they may try over and over only to be blocked, stopped, or pushed backward. Those are called “downs.” The opposition can be fierce, man! Personal and team errors can be costly! All those incremental downs in a game mark the progress each team makes on their way to the end-zone where the points are scored, and the celebration antics ensue. (Some are so silly; I love that part.)
Clients come to me when they are in the midst of a “down” in their life oftentimes (not always) – one that’s not necessarily depression. It could be almost anything. The same old challenge in their marriage…the now routine angry outbursts over seemingly trivial matters or bigger unmet desires or crossed boundaries with others…the panic, fear, or anxiety to certain situations or thoughts. From our first session together, we assess the situation: the past downs and successes and the routine of how plays are made. We partner to move the chains – to get to the goal line of experiencing lasting change – to create better bonding within marriages and families – to overcome unhelpful ways of being – to experience a truer sense of self or of purpose. Whether stuck at their own 30-yard line or at a more hopeful distance from the goal, we work together to move the chains…to help clients realize their life game plan on some level – and make it to the next set of opportunities or celebration stations of life.
How are you doing? It’s the end of January, and you’ve been making some changes in 2023, right? At this moment, do you feel that airish feeling in your chest of hopeful anticipation, maybe like you did on New Year’s Eve? (Or is that all gone?…I hope not.) Maybe this year you will get more scoring yards from your life playbook; I hope so! If that’s not how you’re feeling now, that’s okay too. I’ve been there. And I don’t want you to stay in any “down” stuck position. Follow me to stay in touch (for hope-filled and not too frequent musings, info, tips or news) or “Like” my Facebook page to help out my page analytics to reach more potential clients.
And,…if you’re so inclined ~ hit me up with a comment or message here below the post or through FB about your predicitions for Championship Sunday!; I’d enjoy hearing your thoughts on it! http://facebook.com/CPMCounseling
